Hairy legs

Have you ever wondered how one person’s hair can grow a lot faster than others? Have you ever wondered why the hair on your legs stops growing at a certain point, until you remove it for the process to begin all over again? We have the answers to these puzzling questions!

First of all, everyone’s hair grows differently due to genetics, environmental factors and how often you give it the snip! That’s right, everything from the hair on your head to the hair on your toes will differ between each individual.

There are two types of hairs; Terminal and Vellus. Terminal hairs can grow to three ft or more and have a long growing cycle. They are mostly found on the scalp. This type of hair has a growing cycle of approximately 6 to 8 years. Vellus hairs only grow a couple of millimeters in length so they will never grow as long as scalp hair. Depending on hormonal changes in your body, your hair will grow to different lengths.

There are 3 stages of hair growth.

Stage 1. Anagen: This is the introductory stage of hair growth. It is the production of new hair follicles that begins every time hair is cut or removed.

Stage 2. Catagen: This stage indicates the slowing down of hair production. It is the transitional stage.

Stage 3. Telogen: The resting point. Your hair stops growing, your scalp hair can produce split ends and the hair on your body just sits there in the follicle. The cycle will begin again and old hair is replaced with new – this is when you may notice your hair falling out… but don’t worry – it’s all part of the process!
